Authentic Cretan popular tavern with great ambience set in a stone historic building with a large and verdant outside space in a very pleasant location on the main street in Vamos.
Definitely very well worth a visit if you are not in a particular hurry, and looking for a Cretan "home cooking" rather than sophisticated dishes.
Dishes are good value for money.
They are prepared exclusively with virgin olive oil in an oven heated by wood propagating the healthy Mediterranean/ Cretan diet.
There is also a wide selection of Cretan cheeses, bottled wines as well as house wine from local vineyards. For dessert, among other choices, yogurt with spoon sweet is served and a fine grape based brandy (tsikoudia or raki) made by local producers.
“Sterna of Bloumosifis” is included today in most Greek and international gastronomic and travel guidebooks.
Visitors enjoy their dishes in the shade of the big plane tree in the summer and in the warmth of the wood-burning stove in the winter, to the sound of good music with live performances mostly on weekends.
