West Mani (Greek: Δυτική Μάνη, romanized: Dytiki Mani) is one of the six municipalities of Messinia, with its administrative seat in the charming coastal village of Kardamyli. Located in the southeastern part of Messinia (see #2 on the map), it forms the western section of the Mani Peninsula, often referred to as Messenian Mani (Μεσσηνιακή Μάνη) or Outer Mani (Έξω Μάνη).
This municipality was established in 2011 as part of the Kallikratis government reform, which combined the former municipalities of Avia and Lefktro into unified municipal units.
West Mani enchants visitors with its dramatic mountain scenery, mild Mediterranean climate, and a landscape that seamlessly blends rugged peaks with tranquil beaches. The area offers something for everyone—whether it's sunbathing on golden sands like Kalogria Beach near Stoupa, or hiking and cycling through the towering Mount Taygetos, dotted with gorges, alpine vistas, and the lush Vasiliki forest.
Like other regions in Messinia, West Mani is renowned for its premium extra virgin olive oil and succulent olives. Visitors can enjoy tasting tours at local factories or sample these delicacies in the area’s authentic tavernas. The region’s rich history is visible in its iconic stone tower houses, Byzantine chapels, and ancient castles, evoking tales of warriors and clans who once ruled this land.
Only 45 minutes from Kalamata, West Mani offers a perfect blend of nature, culture, and cuisine—a timeless destination that invites exploration and promises an unforgettable experience.
